Embark on an unforgettable journey through the west side of São Miguel Island, where breathtaking volcanic landscapes, serene lagoons, and rugged coastal beauty come together in a truly immersive experience.
Our day begins in Ponta Delgada, from where we set off towards the magnificent volcanic complex of Sete Cidades. Along the way, we make a stop at the Pico do Carvão viewpoint, offering panoramic views of the North Coast of São Miguel, with its lush green pastures and rolling hills stretching to the horizon.
Next, we visit a 19th-century aqueduct, a remarkable piece of historical engineering that played a crucial role in the island’s water distribution system. Continuing our ascent, we reach the famous Vista do Rei viewpoint, where you will witness the iconic twin lakes of Sete Cidades, one green and one blue, while our guides share the fascinating legends and history of this mystical place.
Descending into the heart of the caldera, we stop at Lagoa de Santiago, a hidden gem surrounded by steep volcanic walls, before arriving at the charming parish of Sete Cidades. Here, you’ll have the chance to explore the village and enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, savoring traditional Azorean cuisine.
After lunch, we continue our adventure to the lava fajã of Mosteiros, a striking landscape shaped by secondary volcanic activity. This area is home to black sand beaches and natural rock pools, formed by ancient lava flows, creating an awe-inspiring coastal setting.
From Mosteiros, we head to the Escalvado Viewpoint, where you can take in breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Mosteiros Islets, and the dramatic cliffs of Ferraria.
In Ferraria, we explore its lava arches and volcanic caves, as well as its unique natural thermal pool, where the ocean waters are heated by geothermal activity up to 40°C.
Before returning to Ponta Delgada, we make one final stop at a traditional Azorean pineapple plantation, where you’ll discover the unique greenhouse cultivation method used to grow this iconic fruit, a true symbol of the region.
This tour offers an unforgettable experience, combining the majestic beauty of Sete Cidades, the rugged coastline of Mosteiros, and the soothing thermal waters of Ferraria. With our expert guides, you’ll uncover the island’s hidden gems, rich history, and stunning landscapes, making this an adventure to remember.
