Leaving Ponta Delgada we will start our journey to the west of the island, in order to discover the unique volcanic panorama of Sete Cidades and the mountainous scenery of Lagoa do Fogo. We begin our journey with landscapes filled with different shades of green to Pico do Carvão, giving us the opportunity to understand the evolution of the island, in geological terms. Then, we continue to the Grota do Inferno viewpoint, in order to observe the entire Sete Cidades caldera together with its beautiful secondary lagoons and volcanic cones. Before entering the volcano, we have to stop at Vista do Rei, in order to contemplate the natural beauty resulting from the volcanic activity that occurred in this area. Leaving the high points of Sete Cidades we enter the caldera and proceed directly to Cerrado das Freiras having the possibility to enjoy the panoramic views of the blue-green waters of the Sete Cidades lagoons. Enjoy a break to enjoy a traditional Azorean lunch at a local restaurant in Sete Cidades. After lunch, we will continue our tour passing by viewpoints and places of interest until we reach the central / northern area of the island, the city of Ribeira Grande. In this city with its historic center from the 17th and 19th centuries, we will visit several points of interest. Still in the same municipality, Ponta do Cintrão has a mandatory stop, with a unique view of the sea and which in ancient times served as a watchman for whale hunting, an activity that had great weight in the Azorean economy. Before we start the climb to the mountain of Pico da Barrosa, we will be able to make an optional stop at Caldeira Velha, one of the natural monuments with the function of informing the visitor regarding its biodiversity, geodiversity, geothermal and thermalism and enjoy its thermal pools with water that can reach 38ºC. Then, we will go to the top of the Lagoa do Fogo mountain, where we will enjoy a fantastic view of the cities of Lagoa, Ponta Delgada and Ribeira Grande, as well as its beautiful and unforgettable Lagoa de Fogo, which has been classified as a Nature Reserve since 1974 , which also highlights some species of plants endemic to the Azores. Finally, we will start our journey back to Ponta Delgada through roads covered with the most varied flowers from different corners of the world. This way we are sure that you will have an unforgettable day enjoying the best of our nature with the company of our guides.
